Master Chae Yu was born in South Korea, and moved to Dallas, Texas with
his family when he was 17 years old. He has studied Taekwondo since the
age of 5, and was a 3-time State Champion in his native South Korea!
He is now a 5th Dan Taekwondo Master, and he drives to Athens each
day from Duluth, GA to teach classes at New Revolution Taekwondo.
Master Yu is a dynamic and dedicated master instructor,
who successfully combines respect and discipline with FUN in each of his
classes.
Master Yu has this to say about Taekwondo:
Taekwondo is one of the most systematic Korean traditional martial arts that teaches far more than just physical
fighting skills. It is a discipline that teaches us ways of enhancing our
spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has
become a globally-recognized sport that has gained an immense following, and
now stands among the official games of the Summer Olympics.
In a word, Taekwondo can be characterized by UNITY: the
unity of body, mind, and life; the unity of the pose ["poomsae," or "forms"]
and confrontation; and cracking down. When you do Taekwondo, you should
make your mind peaceful and synchronize your mind with your movements,
and extend this harmony to your life and society. This is how, in
Taekwondo, the principles of physical movements, mind
training, and of life become one and the same.
Taekwondo pursues harmonious growth and
improvements of life through its unique activities. This is why one
can say that Taekwondo is a way of life. To ultimately enable ourselves to
lead more valuable lives, we would do well by finding the guiding
principles deeply hidden in Taekwondo.
