Belt testing, or "rank advancement," is one of the most exciting aspects of the Taekwondo student experience. It is a time not only to show your instructors how much you have learned, but to show YOURSELF how much you have learned as well. Master Yu and his assistant instructors will always ensure that you are completely prepared with everything you need to know in order to do well on your belt test. However, we can't do it all for you...the following is a list of things that YOU need to do to make each belt test experience exciting and fun!
Make sure that your testing fee is paid BEFORE the day of the test. If you have not paid your fee, you will not be eligible to take the belt test!
If you are under 18, make sure that your parents complete your "Home Performance" sheet and that your school teacher completes your "School Performance" sheet. You must bring both to the belt test so that the judges may see how well you have been behaving at home and at school.
Bring a GOOD ATTITUDE! Always show respect for yourself, your instructors, your fellow students--EVERYONE.
Try not to be nervous. We all know that belt testing time can make even the most seasoned student a little nervous, because we all want to do our best. Take deep, slow breaths, and keep in mind that the judges wish you well and are there to support you, not to frighten you.
Listen carefully! Master Yu will tell you exactly what to do during your belt test. However, if you do not understand the instructions, you can always raise your hand and politely ask him to repeat his instructions. Asking a question will not harm your test result in any way.
If it is not your turn to test yet, DO NOT sit around talking or making noise. This is not only distracting to the judges and to the students who are testing, but it is a display of GREAT disrespect and rudeness and will be taken into consideration by the judges when it is your turn to test.
